Relocation costs are broken down into three (3) main areas.
These costs are based upon the weight of your shipment and the miles between origin and destination.
The costs are based upon how many of each containers are supplied, packed and unpacked.
All the major van lines have a limited standard liability, based upon a rate per pound; these are typically at no charge. You can also purchase additional coverages, either on full replacement or a depreciated basis. You can also choose deductables to save on upfront costs.
Items are typically packed and/or crated in advance of the loading of your shipment. Small shipments may be packed and loaded on the same day.
Washers, dryers, ice makers, etc., may be disconnected either the morning the shipment will be loaded, or one to two days before (Remember, refrigerators and freezers should be defrosted, dried and wiped down before loading day).
The drivers will affix a color coded inventory sticker on each item of furniture, and each box or container. These tags will have a lot number which will be cross referenced with your shipment registration number. Items will be listed on an inventory sheet along with condition at origin.
All non-boxed items will be pad-wrapped in thick, heavy duty furniture pads to protect them in transit. These pads will either be taped or banded.
The driver and his/her team will load your shipment into the van. The team will literally stack items as solidly as possible into the van. The driver will fill the van, floor to ceiling. A densely loaded van insures items will not move around much during transit. This protects your belongings.
The team will finish loading up in your origin area and will proceed to your destination area. The driver will contact you enroute to schedule your delivery. He/she will verify any C.O.D. charges if they apply.
Upon delivery, the team will unload each item and check off the inventory sheet, piece by piece. This is the industries way of knowing each piece has been delivered. Make sure you note the condition and bring any concerns to the drivers attention.
On the day of unloading, typically essential items will be unpacked. For larger unpacking services, we may return the next day to complete the service. The containers that we unpack will be removed from your site unless you'd like to keep them.
Unless this is a corporate move (A company has authorized a direct bill, and has forwarded a signed purchase order or letter of authorization), the driver will contact you enroute. He/she will verify final charges. You may pay via cash, certified check, money order or a major credit card.
Have a garage sale, or give away items you don't really want to keep. It doesn't make sense to pay to move items that you do not plan to keep.
It is critical that the person surveying your move see everything that is, or may potentially be, moved. No one, including a quality moving company, likes surprises. During peak times, they may cause undue service challenges for the moving company. For the client, it could mean additional charges.
Moving consultants have many ideas and tools available to make your move less stressful and more cost effective. Let us know what your concerns are and we'll put together a plan that makes sense.
The best moving companies book up early. Like the airlines, once we book up we cannot accept more business. The summer months are the peak moving season; demand is greater than the supply of quality service companies. Don't be stuck with "who's left" to move you.
If you book your shipment with us, our travel department is at your service. We will be happy to provide airline ticketing, train ticketing, car rental, hotel reservations and tour/cruise planning. Customers are welcome to use Atlas Travel whether they move with Atlas or not.
